The cloth

The mill cloth we cut, and what we hold in Shanghai

We cut cloth from 33 mills and merchants, 26 of them in Europe. Two mill books sit in our Shanghai stock. The rest we order against a confirmed job.

Folded lengths of wool cloth piled together: a black and white check, a plain grey, a dark green and a curly bouclé wool.

Held in Shanghai

Special order

Named by your client, ordered in for the job

Give us the mill, the bunch and the reference. We order that cloth once the job is confirmed. The mill's own lead time comes first, then our 14 days in production, then shipping.

We do not hold these in Shanghai. If a reference cannot be had, we tell you before you promise it to a client.

Mill or merchant

Know who wove the cloth

A mill makes its own cloth, from the yarn to the finished piece. A merchant buys finished cloth from mills and sells it under its own name, often with its own mark on the selvedge. Both are on our list, and both can be very good.

Caccioppoli, for example, is a Naples merchant that buys cloth largely from Biella mills and finishes it with its own selvedge mark. Scabal is a Brussels merchant that also owns a weaving mill in Huddersfield. When you order, we tell you which kind of house you are buying from.

Your order documents carry the bunch and the reference number, so your client can check the cloth with the mill or merchant himself. Do not sell a mill name to a client without that reference.

Your own cloth

Send us your length

If you already buy cloth from a mill or merchant, send it to us and we make it up to your client's measurements. CMT starts at 100 USD per two-piece suit, ex works Shanghai. Production starts once the cloth is with us.

Ask about swatches

We buy cloth as a customer of each mill and merchant named here. We are not an authorised dealer, licensee or representative of any of them, and Italian Mill Suits is not a mill. The suits are made in our own workshop in Shanghai, China.

Next step

Tell us the cloth your client asked for

Tell us the mill, the construction and how many suits you sell. We reply with a quote and the next step. One piece is enough to start.
